| Morgan Hill Weather News: Monday 5/26/2008 1:15pm Here's a view of an eerie smoke plume hanging over the west side of Morgan Hill after sunset yesterday evening: Friday 5/23/2008 10:45pm Unfortunately, the blue skies did not last long and a variable wind direction plus fire penetration east of Summit Road left a smoky haze over the west side of Morgan Hill this afternoon. As promised, here are some more picturesque views from last Wednesday's spectacular sunset... Friday 5/23/2008 1:05pm After a very cloudy, foggy and smoky start to the day, blue skies have returned and a southerly wind is pushing the smoke plume northwards towards San Jose. Thursday 5/22/2008 3:35pm The Summit Fire is still burning it's way south west and the smoke plume visible from the Morgan Hill area is slowly moving it's origin southwards. The photo below was taken around 2pm with the fire apparently flaring closer to the summit ridgeline. Compare it to the photo on the right which was taken around 7am. Thursday 5/22/2008 8:05am A large wildfire ("Summit Fire") has started this morning in the Santa Cruz Mountains west of Morgan Hill. Strong overnight winds from the north are continuing and strengthening which will create a major containment challenge for CALFIRE. A large smoke plume is clearly visible from our vantage point in the eastern hills and on our webcam. Over 500 acres are believed to have burned already. Thursday 5/15/2008 8:00am Last night's sunset was simply spectacular. Oranges, purples and yellows progressing to a deep red texture covering the entire north of the valley. Here are just a couple of webcam snapshots. More to follow... Wednesday 5/14/2008 9:30am Here are some recent webcam snapshot images... Monday 5/12/2008 8:20am Keep an eye on the weather forecasts and alerts this week. It is going to be HOT! Temperatures in Morgan Hill could approach 100°F from Wednesday through Friday. Very low humidity will also mean high fire risk. Don't play with matches!! Thursday 5/8/2008 9:45am Checking site logs today revealed that MorganHillweather.com has just surpassed 1,000,000 (one million) page views since launch in October 2006. The current page view rate exceeds 3,000 per day so 2008 is on track to be a one million plus page view year. Thanks to all our regular visitors. Hope you continue to enjoy the weather and the views! Thursday 5/1/2008 12:01am In the last few days, I have been experimenting with a live streaming webcam service offered by Camstreams. You can launch the results from our webcam page (see "live stream"). The total number of concurrent viewers is limited to fifteen by Camstreams but is also a function of stream bandwidth. Our present limit is five. For this reason (and others) the stream will periodically appear to be offline. Feedback welcome. |
