A very handy mash-up using maps from Microsoft Virtual Earth. Microsoft's bird's eye view mode, which uses close-up aerial (as opposed to satellite) photographs is still my favorite way of checking out places, including real estate. Saturday 2/9/2008 2:45pm Ever wondered about an aircraft flying overhead? Too loud, too low or too late in the day? Ever wanted to track aircraft movements around the south bay area? Well... there is a great web site that lets you do just that. Both in real-time (10min delay) and in replay mode. So if you are thinking "wow, what was that noise at 4am this morning?" you can go replay the flight track and see what was overhead. I've tried just that and it works! FedEx flying from Oakland to LA at 4:40am in the morning! Here's the link to the WebTrak site for San Jose, run by the Lochard Company. Other airports besides SJC are covered too; like Sacramento, Seattle, Oakland and even London Heathrow. Thank you Don for suggesting this site. While we are talking links, I also came across another useful site if you like to track real estate listings on craigslist, both for rent and for sale: www.housingmaps.com This is a Google Maps mashup based on craigslist postings.
